2nd Call for Paper: the 7th Conference of the Pacific Rim Community Design Network
[Mar-2-2010]
The Pacific Rim Community Design Network is returning to Japan more than ten years after the conference in Saitama in 1999. The theme of this year is “Sustainable Landscape, Sustainable Communities.” Using the exquisite setting of Awaji Landscape Planning & Horticulture Academy /University of Hyogo on the island of Awajishima near Kobe, Japan, the conference will examine the connections between sustainability of local communities and the broader environment in the face of globalism. We invite papers and case studies that examine and compare movements across geographic locations that seek to sustain and improve the conditions of local communities and identities through place-based efforts and activism. The 3-4 day event will consist of an all-day open symposium/workshop featuring demonstrations, exhibitions, and poster sessions with citizens, non-profit organizations, and professionals, a day of paper presentations and discussion, and 1-2 day tour of the landscape and community design activities on Awajishima. To present at the conference, please submit a 300-400 word abstract (in English) to Leiko Toyoda: leiko@mercury.ne.jp by March 15, 2010.
