symposium in Chicago, conference in Dallas, internship in New Orleans

CONVERGE: EXCHANGE seeks to engage activist practitioners in communities within and outside Chicago in a conversation about innovative strategies applied and experiences gained in local economies, built environments, and beyond. A wide network of interested and engaged parties including community members, students and design professionals are invited to attend the event. Participants will share experiences, document practice and engage in lively and informative discussion. This two-day event begins on Wednesday, March 18, commencing with an exciting and timely presentation by Bryan Bell (Founder and Executive Director, Design Corps), Katie Swenson (Director, Frederick P. Rose Architectural Fellowship) and John Cary (Executive Director, Public Architecture). The presentation will showcase projects from other parts of the country that can serve as case studies for Chicago and is titled: Coming to the Table: Expanding Architecture & Fostering Partnerships. The lecture is free and open to the public, students and young professionals are especially encouraged to attend, and will occur at the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

Announcing the 9th annual Structures for Inclusion (SFI) conference, presented by DESIGN CORPS, the buildingcommunity WORKSHOP and Texas Schools of Architecture. Entitled "GENERATE.ACTIVATE.MAINTAIN",SFI9 explores the process of community-based practice and, ultimately, how you insert yourself into the cycle of thought and action. Saturday's panels explore the breadth of issues which community-based projects begin to address, the means through which to expand our knowledge and skills, and the environments within which we might continue to expand those skills. In addition to small-scale discussions following each of the panels, the conference is punctuated by a series of Sunday workshops organized around participant-submitted projects. The overall goal for this component is to synthesize the knowledge and experience from Saturday's panelists, present a set of skills to conference attendants in a hands-on learning environment, and assist a group of attendees in advancing their projects to the next stage.
