MAPPED (Making A People's Pathway for Engaging Design) is a digital library dedicated to documenting Chicago's community projects--built, envisioned, or planned. During MAPPED-a-thons, participants learn how to contribute to this research tool by identifying and inputting content to build out the library of projects across the city. This public platform showcases resources for communities to advance their design and planning initiatives by mapping ideas, projects, people, plans, and organizations. The session includes a short presentation introducing MAPPED then transitions into breakout groups researching and inputting community design data to publish online!
Not Chicago-Based? Not a Problem! This Conversation will center around the methods and examples from Chicago but can be applied to your communities, typologies, and regions as well! MAPPED is a tool that can be used to help center conversations around spaces designed for the community (or possibly not) and help bring a vocabulary to work with communities regardless of their training in the built environment.
Design Trust Chicago (DTC) is a collective of multidisciplinary professionals who are passionate about inclusive, collaborative, and intentional design. We remain dedicated to advancing design justice practices by collaborating with residents, nonprofits, and local government to explore design possibilities that center community experiences and develop projects while redirecting resources equitably across Chicago.
