ACD is excited to be wrapping up an exploratory research project, generously supported by both The Surdna Foundation and The Kresge Foundation, which examines design practices explicitly using their work to advance racial justice. In the spring of 2021, we'll be completing a publication that shares everything we learned through our extensive research, field-wide surveys, in-depth interviews, and dozens of trainings, workshops, and convenings that focused on the intersection of design and anti-racism. This publication will be structured as a workbook, intended to provide a process-based framework for understanding how and why design has been complicit with racism, and how designers can develop alternative methods, approaches, and strategies that are explicitly anti-racist.
