In a rapidly changing and complex world, the built environment is critical in shaping our communities, societies, and overall well-being. This workshop brings together changemakers, designers, and stakeholders from various backgrounds to explore the role of community and culture as leverage to create sustainable and inclusive futures. Together, they will explore the power of participatory systems change and employ culture, Futures, and Systems Thinking tools to create meaningful transformations in the world.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will explore how to integrate Systems and Future thinking into their current practices to explore:

  • Awareness-based methodologies for changing systems, building the collective capacity, and facilitating the engineering of generative social fields
  • Cocreation and placemaking as paradigm-shifting practices
  • Explore culture as consists of patterns, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior acquired and transmitted by symbols to impact positive systemic change
  • Future Thinking as a complementary tool exploring evolving and adapting system measures in regenerative placemaking

Our mission is to work with communities to create sustainable, innovative, and socially responsive designs. We mobilize architects, designers, and community leaders to use design to expand opportunities and develop solutions to transform our city.

OACChicago addresses issues of social justice, racial equity, shared resources, and equitable neighborhood development. We work with communities to shift narratives and create pluralistic futures, cocreating with practitioners from the arenas of arts and culture, architecture, planners, social impact design, community activism, and systems change to shape processes and plans and create spaces for inclusive, diverse stakeholders.
